Thruster T-29 29er Men's Mountain Bike, 18-Inch
CUSTOMER REVIEW
Boy, for a guy who wasn't a cyclist, I'm turning into a total bike hound! Okay, so a workmate found out that I rode a road bike and somehow convinced me to go mountain biking. I wasn't really into it, I'm not the rugged macho type. I drive a car - two wheel drive. But he's a nice guy and often helps me out, so I agreed to it. Wow! What a great time! Okay okay - I GET IT! Trails are fun! It's like hiking but without all that pesky walking crap. We rode for almost 2 hours! I've never ridden that long - heck I don't even like to DRIVE for 2 hours. I was havin' so much fun, I think if we had packed some sandwiches I might've been good for even longer. Am I now a hardcore offroad junkie? Hardly. But it was a lot of fun. We ended up going a few more times and I decided that maybe it was time to stop borrowing his old bike and get one of my own. He had an older Fisher that he let me ride, a 29er - forget the model. But he thought that I would like the bigger wheels. Something about rolling over everything. I did stop at a cool bike shop when I was out of town on business, checked out what they had. Nice folks! Very helpful and answered my questions. Unfortunately, that level of bike starts out much higher than I was willing to shell out for a first mountain bike. I still don't envision myself becoming a tree hugger, so dropping big coin on a bike wasn't in the cards. Soooooo off to Amazon I go. Prime member = free shipping :) There were a lot of choices, but I liked the simplicity of the Thruster T29. No dual suspension or anything, just a front shock fork. Regular shifters, V-brakes, Shimano stuff. I also liked another one, but it had disc brakes and I was a little fearful - too much technology for me! The T29 seemed like a good deal, so I went for it. I couldn't be happier! Even my workmate thought it was a great deal for the money. A much nicer bike than the entry level pricing belies. No, he's not trading me his Fisher for it, but he agreed - well worth it. I've gone out several times with him and another guy since I got it, and ............I'm able to keep up! And I'm still havin' fun. This really is a great bike at a great price - plain and simple. We'll see how it holds up in the long run. Maintenance is not my strong suit, so check back and see my progress in a few months. But it feels real good and rides nice, so I think I'll have it awhile.
